Handgun
Location: Cybil gives it to you in the Café. Pros: It’s quick, easy to use and there’s loads of ammunition to be found. You can also move when firing. Cons: There’s a limited range and this weapon can have little effect on bosses or the tougher enemies. Recommended: Mumblers, Air Screamers. |
Knife
Location: Counter in Café. Pros: It’s fast and you can use it to conserve your ammo. Cons: Need to get close to enemies to use it, and even then it only inflicts minor damage. Recommended: Groaners and not much else. |
Steel Pipe
Location: Finney Street, at the end of the alley. Pros: It’s fast, reasonably powerful and, again, you can use it when you need to conserve your firearm ammunition. Cons: Need to get reasonably close to enemies to inflict damage, and it can be cumbersome to use. Recommended: Larva Stalkers, Air Screamers. |
Shotgun
Location: School, First Floor Boys Bathroom. Pros: There’s plenty of ammo around for this weapon. Even though it’s more powerful than the handgun, you can still move when firing – use it point-blank and it can be devastating. Cons: It takes longer to load and you’re restricted to 6 bullet magazines. It’s wise to avoid quick-moving bosses. Recommended: Mumblers – particularly when you’re surrounded by them. |
Small Axe
Location: Hidden altar inside ‘Green Lion’. Pros: It inflicts more damage – and is easier and lighter to use – than the Pipe. The Axe is also useful for smashing rusted locks. Cons: You need to get close to enemies to inflict damage. Avoid using this weapon if surrounded by many enemies. Recommended: Mumblers and Larva Stalkers. |
Hunting Rifle
Location: Shopping Mall, Larva Boss. Pros: Most powerful firearm weapon in the game. Cons: You can’t move when firing, and it’s slow to reload. Rifle Ammo is scarce, so you should try to conserve it. Recommended: Bosses and tougher enemies like the Rompers. |
Emergency Hammer
Location: Alternate Hospital, Generator Room. Pros: No ammo required and it’s faster and more powerful than the other melee weapons. Cons: It can be cumbersome to use. Recommended: Nurses/Doctors. |
Gasoline (Petrol) Can
(only available on your second time through the game) Location: Gas Station, Bloch Street. Pros: n/a Cons: Your hands will whiff of pertoleum for ages afterwards. Recommended: You needed the Gas Can to power up the Rock Drill and Chainsaw. |
Rock Drill
(only available on your second time through the game) Location: Drawbridge Tower Room. Pros: Very powerful. Cons: It’s heavy, difficult to handle and you can’t move whilst using it. Recommended: Slow-moving enemies. |
Chainsaw
(only available on your second time through the game) Location: Cut-Rite Chainsaws Store, Bloch Street. Pros: Powerful and different types of attacks are available. Cons: Slow to recover and difficult to use. Recommended: Mumblers, Groaners, Doctors/Nurses and any slow-moving or isolated enemies. |
Hyper Blaster
(only available on your third time through the game after gaining UFO ending) Location: It’s in your inventory at the start of the game. Pros: No ammo is required and it has a long range, automatic aim, which means you rarely miss your target. The auto-aim will also sight enemies in the dark – and even through walls. Cons: The more you use it, the lower your score at the end of the game – and it’s not quite powerful enough for bosses. Recommended: Everything! |
Katana
(You have to have completed twice – once with a Good/Good+ Ending, then with a Bad/Bad+ Ending) Location: The “Doghouse” House, Levin Street. Pros: It inflicts a lot of damage and several types of attacks are possible. Cons: Can be slow and difficult to use. Recommended: Groaners. |
